Vijay Eswaran is a Malaysian entrepreneur who is the executive chairman of the QI group, a large multinational conglomerate which has companies in nearly thirty different countries that employs more than fifteen hundred people. The subsidiary companies of the QI group typically focus on empowering aspiring new entrepreneurs, education, and general lifestyle and luxury items. Eswaran co-founded the company that later turned into the QI group in 1998.
Aside from his contributions in the QI group, Vijay Eswaran is also quite the philanthropist. Eswaran even made it on Forbes Asia’s list of Heroes of Philanthropy. Eswaran has contributed millions to many different causes, namely education, cultural programs, and disaster relief. Most of his philanthropy is targeted towards poor children. In 2005 Vijay established the RYTHM foundation, which would serve as the socially-conscious arm of the QI group. Eswaran also started the Vijayaratnam Foundation, the Malaysian chapter of the RYTHM foundation Vijay named after his father, in 2006. The RYTHM foundation and its Malaysian chapter the Vijayaratnam Foundation are charity organizations that have countless projects spanning mostly across the Asian continent.
In his personal life, Eswaran lives in both Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong. With him are his wife of twenty eight years and his nieces and nephew. Eswaran is regularly invited to international talks as a speaker and is highly regarded in both the business world and the philanthropy world. Vijay is also a best selling author with currently six books, most of which are focused on leadership and mindfulness.
Eswaran has received a plethora of awards and recognitions. He made it on the aforementioned Forbes Asia list of Heroes of Philanthropy, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award for Global Entrepreneurship at The 8th World Chinese Economic Summit, and he received the Malasian Business Awards’ CEO of the year award in 2013.
